Issue/Introduction

  • Edge node is showing MPA Connectivity Down. The Edge is Virtual machine.

Environment

  • VMware NSX 4.1.x

Cause

  • This issue is caused by physical network.

Resolution

  • Check the physical network connectivity.
  • On the ESXi host running the Edge VM, perform a switchover to the vmnic that is currently handling the Edge's management network traffic.
  • Identify the ESXi host for each affected node. Using root SSH on the hosts, then run the esxtop command (followed by 'n') to determine which physical adapter (vmnic) was being utilized by the Edge VM's primary vNIC. This process revealed that all Edge nodes experiencing the MPA connectivity issue were using the same underlying physical adapter
  • Check the connectivity from NSX Edge to NSX Manager using below:-
    • Use user root ssh to Edge node, run following commands but failed:
      ping <nsx_manager_ip>
      ping <gateway_ip>
