Issue/Introduction

  • Edge nodes in unknown status with "MPA Connectivity Down"
  • The Edge is a virtual machine.
  • Ping is failing between NSX Edge and the default gateway & NSX Manager:
    • As root, SSH to the Edge node:

      ping <NSX_Manager_IP>
      ping <default_gateway>

  • Identify the ESXi host for each affected Edge node:
    • As root user, run the esxtop command (followed by 'n') to determine which physical adapter (vmnic) was being utilized by the Edge VM's primary vNIC.
  • All Edge nodes experiencing the MPA connectivity issue were using the same underlying physical adapter.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

  • This issue is caused by physical network issues preventing the Edge to reach the NSX Managers.
