VMware Cloud on AWS

Issue/Introduction

After activating VMware HCX in a VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS environment, you may be able to access the HCX Manager URL (e.g., https://<HCX-Manager-IP-Address>) but find that the admin credentials are not listed on the VMC Settings page. This prevents direct login to the HCX Manager portal for configuration or management tasks.

Environment

  • VMC on AWS
  • VMware HCX

Cause

The HCX Manager in a VMC on AWS environment does not use a unique standalone "admin" password generated in the VMC console. Instead, it is integrated with the SDDC's identity management, requiring the use of the [email protected] account or vCenter plugin integration.

Resolution

To access the VMware HCX Cloud service interface, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Direct Login to HCX Manager

  1. Navigate to your HCX Manager URL in a web browser.
  2. For the username, enter [email protected]
  3. Enter the password associated with the [email protected] account (this is the same password used to log into your VMC vCenter).
  4. Click Login.

Method 2: Access via VMC Console

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Console.
  2. Navigate to the SDDC tab and select your SDDC.
  3. Go to the Add Ons tab.
  4. Locate the HCX card and click Open HCX.
  5. A new browser tab will open to the VMware HCX Cloud service interface.
  6. Enter [email protected] and your password to log in.
