Service Discovery adapter collection fails for the VM objects with following error: "VM authentication status is failed"

Issue/Introduction

• Alert "Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance" triggered for Service Discovery adapter in VCF Operations.

• The VM objects linked to the alert have a "Failed" Authentication Status.
  VCF Operations UI >> Workload Operations >> Application >> Manage SDMP Service

• The "/storage/log/vcops/log/adapters/ServiceDiscovery/ServiceDiscoveryAdapater_id.log" reports below error:

Aria Operations 8.x

VCF Operations 9.0

Cause

The issue is caused by the absence of the Service Discovery Management Platform package on the VMs. This package is a mandatory requirement for VMware Aria Operations to perform Credential-less Service Discovery. 

Resolution

Follow the below steps to resolve this issue:

• Install 'open-vm-tools-sdmp' package on VM Objects following the steps outlined in below article:
  Credential-less Service Discovery functionality in vRealize Operations 8.1.x and later
• Once installed, verify that the collection status is OK after the VM object’s Authentication Status changes to Credential-less.
