Issue/Introduction

Physical switches are not showing expected MAC addresses of virtual machines on NSX Bridge Segments. Issue may be reproduced when the Edge node is changed in the Bridge Profile of the NSX Segment.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

Overlapping VLAN range configurations in NSX Bridge Segments are unsupported.

Resolution

To see VLAN IDs/VLAN ranges configured via CLI/SSH:
edge> get bridge

  1. Go to Networking→Segments and edit the NSX Segment with Bridge configured.
  2. Expand Additional Settings.
  3. Click on the number next to Edge Bridge. A new dialog box for the Edge Bridge Profile will open.
  4. Click edit.
  5. Click on the vertical ellipses and delete the Edge Bridge. Here the VLANs IDs/VLAN ranges configured are displayed in the rightmost column.
  6. Click Apply to exit the dialog box.
  7. Click Save on the Segment.
  8. Then edit and re-add the NSX Bridge configuration to the NSX Segment without overlapping VLAN IDs or VLAN range.

Additional Information

Currently the validation checks for overlapping VLANs in NSX Bridge configurations do not prevent a user from configuring overlapping VLAN ranges in NSX Bridges. This validation check will be permanently resolved in a future NSX release for VCF 9.0 and 4.2.
