Issue/Introduction

  • Cloud Proxy shows as offline in the VMware Aria Operations Product UI
    • Sign into VMware Aria Operations product UI by navigating to https://<primary_node_iporFQDN>/vcf-operations/ui   
    • Navigate to Administration
    • Cloud Proxies
    • Cloud Proxy status shows as Offline 
  • VMware aria Operations Web Certificate has expired.  Please use the KB How to determine if VMware Aria Operations Web Certificate has expired as a guide to determine if the web certificate has expired  
  • Error found in the /storage/log/vcops/log/casa/casa.log on the Cloud Proxy similar to below 
    2025-10-09T10:13:56,833+0000  WARN [pool-3-thread-7] [#########] proxyrc.proxy.CloudProxyClusterPing:134 - Service is unavailable, let's check certificate renewal
    2025-10-09T10:13:56,890+0000 ERROR [pool-3-thread-7] [#########] proxyrc.proxy.CloudProxyClusterPing:147 - Cluster pinging exception: 503 Service Unavailable: "<html><body><h1>503 Service Unavailable</h1><EOL>No server is available to handle this request.<EOL></body></html><EOL>"

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

VMware Aria Operations Web certificate has expired

Resolution

The resolution for this is dependent on your situation which is if you manage your certificates with VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle or you generate the custom web certificate manually.

  • Manually creating custom certificate please follow the below steps 
    1. Reload default certificate as per KB Reload the default certificate in Aria Operations
    2. Apply KB Configure a Certificate For Use With VCF Operations .
    3. Once you have completed the installation of the certificate in VMware Aria Operations you will need to add that certificate to the Cloud Proxy following the steps in the section "Add root CA certificate to Cloud Proxy after deployment" in the KB Add CA certs to a cloud proxy in VMware Aria Operations 
  • Managing the certificate through VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle
    1. Apply the steps in KB Unable to update the Aria Operations web certificate using Aria Suite Lifecycle .
    2. Once you have completed step 1 above you will need to add that certificate to the Cloud Proxy following the steps in the section "Add root CA certificate to Cloud Proxy after deployment" in the KB Add CA certs to a cloud proxy in VMware Aria Operations
