Issue/Introduction

The HPE OneView for VMware vCenter plug-in download fails with the following error message in Recent tasks : Error downloading plug-in. URL is unreachable. handshake_failure(40)

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The upgrade of the existing OV4VC appliance fails to register the plug-in successfully. As a result, a fresh installation of the OV4VC appliance is required to restore proper plug-in functionality.

Resolution

As per the HPE Support document HPE OneView for VMware vCenter - Deploy Plug-In Not Successful, redeployment of the OV4VC appliance is required after upgrading vCenter. Before redeployment, any existing plug-in entries must be removed from the vCenter MOB page.

Follow the steps below to unregister the OV4VC extension from vCenter using the MOB interface:

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to:
    http://<vCenter_Server_Name_or_IP>/mob

  2. Click ContentExtensionManager.

  3. Review the list of registered extensions. Click (more...) if needed to display all entries.

  4. Locate and copy the key name of the plug-in to be removed.
For OV4VC, the extension key is:
    com.hpe.ov4vc

  5. Click UnregisterExtension.

  6. Paste the copied key (com.hpe.ov4vc) into the text box and click Invoke Method.
→ The plug-in will be unregistered (result should show void).

  7. Close the pop-up window.

  8. Refresh the ExtensionManager page to confirm that com.hpe.ov4vc is no longer listed.

  9. To verify that the extension has been successfully removed, run the following command from the VCSA SSH session. If the extension was removed successfully, it should no longer appear in the output list.
    /opt/vmware/vpostgres/current/bin/psql -d VCDB -U postgres -c "select ext_id,version,desc_summary,company from vpx_ext;"

  10. Repeat the same steps for all vCenter Servers if multiple instances are registered.

After completing the un registration, proceed with the deployment of the supported version of the OV4VC appliance and configure it as per the HPE Support document HPE OneView for VMware vCenter - Deploy Plug-In Not Successful.

If you encounter any issues during the deployment or configuration process, please contact HPE Support for further assistance.
