Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

While accessing the vCenter server URL page manually we receive browser error, ie: https://vCenter_FQDN/

Error seen - "upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection termination.

Environment

VMware vCenter server 

Cause

The certificates on the vCenter server are expired due to which the services are not running / in stopped state.

This issue may occur due to :

The VPXD service on the vCenter Server is not running or not accepting connections due to:

Expired certificates.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, please follow the below steps -

Log in to vCenter Server shell and start the vSphere Certificate Manager.

Navigation path : 

/usr/lib/vmware-vmca/bin/certificate-manager

Select Option 8, Reset all Certificates.

Enter the administrator user and password.

When prompted, enter your certificate information.

After certificates are replaced and services are restarted, verify your certificate information.

To renew/regenerate the self-signed certificates on a vCenter Server, please use the Certificate Manager utility on the vCenter Server using the steps detailed in the following KB article:
