Issue/Introduction

  • The Putty Or the other SSH tool login to ESXi successfully but disconnect immediately
  • The ESXi host log shows "SSH session was closed" after  "SSH session was opened" in 1 second

/var/run/log/hostd.log

In(166) Hostd[1050225]: [Originator@6876 sub=Vimsvc.ha-eventmgr] Event 165 : SSH session was opened for 'User@IP_Address'.
In(166) Hostd[1050230]: [Originator@6876 sub=Vimsvc.ha-eventmgr] Event 166 : SSH session was closed for 'User@IP-Address'.

  • ESXi support bundle shows the "Current Value" of  ESXiShellInteractiveTimeOut is 1 second

Cause

The Default value 0 is changed to 1 second for the option ESXiShellInteractiveTimeOut

Resolution

To resolve the current issue, Edit ESXiShellInteractiveTimeOut to one proper value by:

In the vSphere Client, under the host's [Configure] tab > [Advanced System Settings] > [Edit] > filter ESXiShellInteractiveTimeOut and input proper value.
