Issue/Introduction

Per page Gen™ 8.6 > Technical Requirements > Third-Party Software Version under the "Compilers" section the Build Tool currently supports Java JDK versions 8 and 11. Are there plans to support later versions such as JDK 17 and JDK 21?

Resolution

Per Gen EDGE Community page Gen 8.6 certification plans for 2025 and the statement from March 7, support for building Java applications with JDK 17 and 21 is planned for calendar year 2025.

October 13, 2025 update

The Gen product team are still hoping to provide the JDK 17 & 21 Support by the end of this calendar year. However, that is still subject to the statement at the top of the above page i.e.
"This is a forward-looking statement. This is subject to change at any time without notice.  The development, release, and timing remain at Broadcom's sole discretion."

February 12, 2026 update

With the release of Gen 8.6 Build Tool PTF BTN86406/LU19288  the Build Tool now supports JDK versions 17, 21 & 25 per the "Compilers" section of page Gen™ 8.6 >Technical Requirements > Third-Party Software Version which lists Open JDK versions 8, 11, 17, 21 and 25 and this statement:
