Issue/Introduction

This article delineates the procedure for removing a Virtual Machine from an Array-Based Replication Protection Group.

Environment

VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.8
VMware Live Site Recovery

Resolution

When you create a new virtual machine or use svMotion to move a virtual machine on a datastore that is replicated and protected in VMware Live Site Recovery, the virtual machine is automatically added to and protected in an existing protection group.

If you would like to remove a VM from ABR Protection Group and reclaim a per-VM license protection, you have 2 options -

1. svMotion the VM you wish to unprotect to a non-replicated datastore

2. Delete the Protection Group and Recovery plan associated with it.
