Unable to update banner for NSX appliances

Issue/Introduction

Updating the banner on NSX Edge node or Manager with the CLI command set banner gives the error message:

UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x## in position #: unexpected end of data

% An error occurred while updating the security banner

 

Environment

VMWare NSX

Cause

The banner message contains accented/special characters

Resolution

Remove the accented/special characters from the banner message
