Issue/Introduction

  • Hosts participating in a vSAN cluster are experiencing vMotion failures, accompanied by vSphere HA errors as below in UI.

"The host is reporting errors in its attempts to provide vSphere HA support."

  • vSphere HA detected a possible host failure and reports below error in vCenter UI

" A host is considered to have failed by a vSphere HA master agent if it looses contact with the vSphere HA agent on the host, the host does not respond to pings on any of the management interfaces, and the master does not observe any datastore heartbeats."

Action: Determine the cause of the host failure and correct.

Environment

VMware vSphere
VMware ESXi
VMware vSAN

Cause

  • When vSAN and vSphere HA are enabled in the same cluster, HA interagent traffic relies on the vSAN logical network. Therefore, any communication issues on the vSAN VMkernel will directly cause vSphere HA to fail.
