Issue/Introduction

  • The ESX transport node is down due to hardware failure
  • The transport node is in a cluster with a transport node profile
  • Remove NSX button is greyed out when selecting the transport node
  • You want to remove the ESX transport node from NSX so you can re-use the the FQDN and IP once recovering the hardware failure.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

ESX host prepared as a Transport Node status goes into Unknown or Host Disconnected state due to lost connection to NSX Manager, which is expected when a host is offline due to hardware failure.

Resolution

1. Disconnect the ESX transport node from VMware vSphere
2. Drag the ESX transport node out of the cluster
3. From NSX manager UI, select: System > Fabric > Standalone Hosts > Remove NSX with Force Delete option
