Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade a VMware Identity Manager (vIDM) appliance from 3.3.6 to 3.3.7, the upgrade process fails during the precheck phase. The user interface displays an error indicating that there is "drive space not sufficient" to proceed with the upgrade. This issue typically prevents the vIDM appliance from moving to the newer version.

Environment

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.6

Cause

The root cause of the "drive space not sufficient" error during the vIDM upgrade precheck is an outdated disk partitioning scheme. When vIDM appliances have been upgraded multiple times, especially if they began as a non-Photon OS installation, they often retain the original, smaller disk layout.

Resolution

Follow steps to increase drive space in the following KB 319356.
