VMware HCX

Issue/Introduction

  • While attempting to extend an NSX segment from a connector to the cloud, the segment appears greyed out, and the transport zone (TZ) is not visible in the network container within HCX.
  • Despite verifying the correct switch in the network container, creating a new compute profile, restarting HCX services, and re-registering the NSX manager, the TZ remains unseen, preventing NSX VLAN extension.

  • The  /common/logs/admin/app.log on the HCX appliance shows the following error when trying to fetch transport zones from NSX:
    Failed to fetch transport zones from NSX. Response = {"status":"failure","statusCode":400,"details":"","result":{"httpStatus":"BAD_REQUEST","error_code":500069,"module_name":"Policy","error_message":"Specified enforcement point path=[\/infra\/sites\/default\/enforcement-points\/default] does not exist."}}

Environment

VMWare HCX

Cause

The HCX is making an API call to NSX Manager /api/v1/infra/sites/default/enforcement-points/default/transport-zones, and the NSX Manager is returning a response that the specified path does not exist, due to an unsupported NSX build.

Note: This can occur if you are using the VMC Cloud build in an on-premises environment, which is not supported.

Resolution

This is a condition that may occur in a VMware HCX environment.
Please configure HCX Manager with a supported NSX version.
