Export SRM Configuration from SRM UI fails - "Unable to generate file"

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Attempting to export the Site Recovery Manager (SRM) configuration data fails with the error: “Unable to generate file.”

• The error message does not indicate which Protection Group or virtual machines are causing the issue.
• Site pairs appear connected and in a healthy state in the SRM interface.
• The issue may occur when using array-based replication while attempting to back up the SRM configuration file.

 

Environment

VMware Live Site Recovery 9.x

Cause

One of the PG is unable to find the fault domain because of the Vvol provider issue. 

You may see this in SRM appliance under /var/log/vmware/srm/impex.log and /var/log/vmware/srm/vmware-dr.log

Resolution

The issue occurrs due to a dependency with a vVOL-based Protection Group and its associated Recovery Plan, which is preventing the SRM XML configuration file from being generated.

To resolve the issue, the vVOL Protection Group and the linked Recovery Plan to be deleted. After removing these dependencies, the XML export operation should complete successfully.
