Issue/Introduction

Question:

When I look at STC or TSO active address spaces under SYSVIEW, why do I see different job class values depending on the z/OS version?

With z/OS 1.13, the displayed JOBCLASS for STC address spaces is "$" and TSO users is "@".

With z/OS 2.1, the displayed JOBCLASS for STC is "STC" and TSO users is "TSU".

Answer:

JES2 z/OS 1.13 and prior had one character job classes. For display purposes SYSVIEW chose "$" to represent the job class for started tasks and "@" for TSO users.

JES2 z/OS 2.1 increased the job class value to eight characters, so SYSVIEW changed to show a value of "STC" for started tasks and "TSU" for TSO users.
