Issue/Introduction

Unable to power on a VM from VMware Cloud Director. The following error is displayed:

The operation failed because no suitable resource was found. Out of 1 candidate hubs: 1 hub eliminated because: No access to network "Network-Name". Rejected hubs: Resource-Group-Name - PlacementException NO_FEASIBLE_PLACEMENT_SOLUTION

When checking the associated network in VMware Cloud Director, the following error may also occur:

The requested Object : dvportgroup-### could not be found. Object identifiers are case sensitive.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

  • The VM associated with the network "Network-Name", might no longer exists in VMware Cloud Director.

  • The corresponding portgroup had already been deleted from vCenter, leading to the error.

  • This is a known issue documented here: KB 309669.

Resolution

  1. Remove the missing network from the vm's network.
  2. Power on the vm again from VMware Cloud Director.

  3. Reattach the Nic directly from vCenter if required.

  4. Restore the missing network ("Network-Name") in VMware Cloud Director UI following the guidance in KB 309669.
