Issue/Introduction

  • VM's are on an NSX overlay segment that is also configured for L2 Edge Bridging.
  • The L2 Edge Bridge configuration and VM network connectivity functioned properly when the NSX Edges that are part of the Edge Bridge configuration were on the original vCenter vSphere cluster.
  • After migrating the NSX Edges to the new vCenter vSphere cluster, network connectivity between VM's on the NSX overlay segment, or over the bridge, began failing.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This issue is caused when the necessary L2 Edge Bridging configuration is not fully set on the new vCenter Server DVS or the ESXi hosts in the new vSphere cluster that the NSX Edges were migrated to.

Resolution

Ensure the appropriate L2 Edge Bridging configuration is in place on the new vCenter vSphere cluster as detailed in Configure an Edge VM for Bridging

Additional Information

DVS's and their portgroups are unique to the vCenter Server they belong to and are not replicated between vCenter Servers that are part of the same Enhanced Linked Mode group.

Refer to Troubleshooting NSX L2 Bridging for further information on L2 Bridging.
