Issue/Introduction

After renaming Spool datasets can a Warm restart be used to pull in the new dataset names?

Resolution

Even a modify of the SPOOLDS control statements to specify new names in the ESFPARM initialization deck won’t be able to perform a WARM start after renaming any SPOOL datasets.
A Warn start will produce the following errors:
ESF062  CHKPTDS1 SPOOL ALLOCATION ERROR, FOLLOWING VOLUMES/EXTENTS EXPECTED:
ESF063  VOLSER: vvvvvv  EXTENT:  START: nnnnnnnn END: nnnnnnnn DSN=dsname
ESF002  INITIALIZATION FAILED, CORRECT ABOVE PROBLEMS AND RESTART ESF

The reason is because the actual names are recorded in the Checkpoint dataset which requires a COLD start. A COLD start will delete all the files stored in those datasets so a backup of the files using the ESFSPTP backup and restore utility should be done.
