Question:
Can I rename the spool datasets and then perform a WARM restart of CA Spool?
Answer:
No. Even if you modify the SPOOLDS control statements to specify new names in the ESFPARM initialization deck, we won’t be able to perform a WARM start if you rename one or more of those datasets. The reason is because the actual names are recorded in the Checkpoint dataset. So, if you need to rename any of them, a COLD start is required. As a COLD start will delete all the files stored in those datasets you may want to backup the files first using the ESFSPTP backup and restore utility.
Additional Information:
If you rename a spool dataset, even if you adjust the SPOOLDS parameter in the ESFPARM member the following error messages will show up if you try to perform a WARM start:
ESF062 CHKPTDS1 SPOOL ALLOCATION ERROR, FOLLOWING VOLUMES/EXTENTS EXPECTED:
ESF063 VOLSER: vvvvvv EXTENT: START: nnnnnnnn END: nnnnnnnn DSN=dsname
ESF002 INITIALIZATION FAILED, CORRECT ABOVE PROBLEMS AND RESTART ESF
