Issue/Introduction

While enabling the vSAN File Service, the following error is encountered:

Error Message:

"General vSAN error. Cannot enable vSAN file service because compatible 8.0.1 OVF is not found."

  • vCenter and ESXi hosts are on 8.0 U3 version.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

This issue happen because of the mismatch vSAN on disk format version in the vSAN cluster. The vSAN file service enablement workflow checks the vsan disk format version to determine the compatible file service version for the cluster and if the on disk format version is not compatible with the ESXi/vCenter and the highest file service version compatible, then the process fails with the following error.

"General vSAN error. Cannot enable vSAN file service because compatible 8.0.1 OVF is not found."

Resolution

Upgrade vSAN Disk Format:

  • Upgrade the vSAN disk format to a version that is compatible with the vSAN cluster.

Once upgraded, the vSAN file service enable process will succeed.
