Cause

If automatic updates for VMware Tools is enabled, VMware Tools updates may be performed during virtual machine restarts. In such cases, the virtual machine restarts again unexpectedly.

Resolution

  1. Check if automatic tools upgrade is enabled
vSphere Client > Virtual machine > Updates tab and see "Automatically upgrade on reboot :  On " on VMware Tools.

  2. Disable automatic tools upgrade

    Configure for a virtual machine
vSphere Client > Virtual machine > Updates tab and click "Turn Off" on VMware Tools.

    Configure for multiple virtual machines
vSphere Client > cluster > Updates tab > VMware Tools > check Virtual machines and set "Off" from SET AUTO UPDATE.
