Issue/Introduction

Hard disk is not listed as compatible for use with vSAN via the Broadcom HCL

Example

Environment

VMware vSAN (all versions)

Resolution

Running disks that are not on the HCL can lead to poor performance and premature failures, which can lead to data unavailability or even data loss.

If the vSAN disks are not on the HCL for the version of ESXi that is installed, the environment will be in an unsupported state.  This would mean that VMware would not be able to support the vSAN cluster as it does not meet the requirements for vSAN.

If the Drives are supported for the current version of ESXI but not the version that targeted for upgrade, remove the drivers and replace with ones on the HCL to maintain a supported configuration.

If your drives are not listed on the HCL contact the hardware vendor to verify if the disks are going to be or are in the process of being certified for use with vSAN.
