When performing a remediation pre-check or attempting to remediate hosts in a vSAN cluster using vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM), the process is blocked by hardware compatibility enforcement.
The following error appears during remediation pre-check:
The image has hardware compatibility issues. A remediation setting will cause remediations to fail."
Additionally, the following warning appears under Cluster -->Updates --> Hardware Compatibility:
"Firmware information is unavailable without a Hardware Support Manager configured as part of the cluster's image. Firmware compatibility must be verified manually."
VMware vCenter Server 8.0 U3
This issue occurs when a Hardware Support Manager (HSM) plugin is not configured in the environment. Without an HSM, vLCM cannot verify firmware compliance. If the Lifecycle Manager image settings are set to prevent remediation if hardware compatibility issues are found, the upgrade is blocked despite manual verification of hardware compatibility.
To allow the remediation to proceed after manually verifying hardware compatibility, perform the following steps:
Log in to the vSphere Client.
Navigate to Lifecycle Manager > Settings.
Under Cluster Lifecycle, select Images.
Click Edit and locate the Hardware Compatibility Check section.
Uncheck the box "Prevent remediation if hardware compatibility issues are found".
This will change the "Hardware compatibility check" to "Do not prevent remediation if hardware compatibility issues found"
Re-attempt the remediation pre-check.
