ESX Host loses VDS configuration after structural network modifications

Issue/Introduction

• After modifying the host's CNA (Converged Network Adapter) and restarting the host, the VDS was lost.
• Restarting network management is not possible (restarting the network management option is greyed out in the DCUI).
• After performing a full DCUI reset the option to restart network management is still greyed out (How to perform a reset of the iLO5 interface on an HP server).

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

Resolution

Open a support request

Workaround: Reinstall the ESXi host (if possible).
