After restarting ESXi, the template was migrated to the failover host.

Issue/Introduction

After transitioning ESXi to maintenance mode and rebooting, the template was found to have been migrated to the failover host.

Environment

vSphere ESXi
vCenter Server

Cause

Actually, the template is moved during the transition process to maintenance mode.
If the option “Move powered-off and suspended virtual machines to other hosts in the cluster” option is checked during the transition to maintenance mode, templates are migrated to other ESXi hosts.
This is expected behavior.

Resolution

“Move powered-off and suspended virtual machines to other hosts in the cluster” option is checked by default.
If you do not want to migrate the template to other hosts, uncheck this option and transition to maintenance mode.

Additional Information

The “Move powered-off and suspended virtual machines to other hosts in the cluster” option appears when performing a transition to maintenance mode from vSphere Client, provided the target host belongs to a cluster with DRS enabled.
