Issue/Introduction

  • Controllers registered in Enterprise with Cloud Services tier will report LICENSE_LIMIT_SE_SERVICE_CORES regularly.
  • An alert similar to below is noticed in alert_mgr.log
    [2024-07-13 22:45:07,576] INFO [alert_email.executeAction:181] Email Description : Summary: At 2024-07-13 22:45:00+00:00 (UTC) alert System-Controller-Alert occurred on <Controller node UUID> in tenant admin
    Details:
At 2024-07-13 22:45:00+00:00 (UTC) event LICENSE_LIMIT_SE_SERVICE_CORES occurred on <Controller node UUID> in tenant admin as
    current_value: 100.0
    entity_uuid: node2.controller.local
    metric_id: controller_stats.max_num_service_cores_lic_usage
    metric_name: max_num_service_cores_lic_usage
    threshold: 90.0
    vm_type: Controller

Environment

  • Avi version 22.1.x, 30.2.1, and 30.2.2 are affected due to this issue

Cause

  • In the Cloud Services tier, the Controller only consumes the licenses it requires from the license pool on the Pulse portal. However, this results in the Controller displaying 100% license utilization.

Resolution

  • This event is only relevant for the Enterprise tier, where the Controller consumes licenses uploaded directly to it. If the Controller is in the Cloud Services tier, this event can be ignored. Instead, monitor the Pulse dashboard for the actual license exhaustion.
  • This issue is resolved in Avi version 31.1.x and above.
