Issue/Introduction

HPE SR416ie-m Gen11 Tri mode controller showing as status "unknown" in the vCenter gui.

Environment

ESXi (All Versions)

Cause

The device driver is responsible for passing the status of the device to vCenter and Unlike FC and iSCSI HBAs where the online status signifies that the adapter has connected to the fabric or network. A storage controller such as the tri-mode controller mentioned will report status as "unknown" as it is neither online or offline as it does not connect to an external network.  

Resolution

 This is reporting as normal and can be safely ignored.
