Overview of how the VirtualMachine VMCPUUsageAlarms are raised in Smarts ESM

Environment

Smarts 10.1.X , 24.3.X

TCSA 2.X

Resolution

As per the Smarts design, the VMCPUUsageAlarm events appear when the following criteria are met.

  • The Alarms thresholds are configured on the VCenter. To View and Edit Alarm settings, please refer to the link: Create or Edit Alarms
  • Whenever the Virtual Machine crosses the Alert threshold settings, Virtual machine CPU usage event will be generated in the vCenter.
  • Smarts will pick up this event from the vCenter and will be shown VirtualMachine VMCPUUsageAlarm event in ESM Server.

Reference for this alarm on VCenter are available at: Virtual machine CPU usage alarm

ESM depends on the VCenter alarms system and then parses the messages received in the form of alarms (via vCenter API) which are fetched via the ESM (with the credentials available in the ESM domain)

The protocols used by ESM for monitoring different components are listed here: Server Manager Overview
