Issue/Introduction

When booting the SMG-S450 appliance from a boot drive with software version 10.9.1, you may encounter the following installation error

/dev/sdd1 is currently mounted and cannot be used for installation

Cause

This is a known issue specific to version 10.9.1. The system mistakenly treats the target partition as mounted, preventing the installation process from completing.

Resolution

To bypass this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Download the 10.8.1 IOS from the Broadcom Support Portal.

  2. Burn the 10.8.1 IOS image onto a thumb drive.

  3. Insert the thumb drive into the SMG-S450 appliance.

  4. Boot the S450 from the thumb drive.

  5. Upgrade sequentially — first to 10.9.0, and then to 10.9.1.

This staged upgrade process avoids the mounting error and ensures the system reaches version 10.9.1 successfully.
