How to verify if an ESXi host is managed by vCenter Server using the ESXi Host Client

Issue/Introduction

To verify whether the ESXi host you are logged into via the ESXi Host Client is managed by vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware ESX 9.0
VMware ESXi 8.0

VMware ESXi 7.0

Resolution

1. Log in to the ESXi Host Client as the root user.

2. Click [Hosts] in the navigator.

3. The following information appears below the host name:

・Version
・State
・Uptime

If the State field displays

(not connected to any vCenter Server)

the host is not connected to vCenter Server.

Additional Information

For reference, when connected to a vCenter Server,
the following message will appear:
(connected to vCenter Server at ###.###.###.###)
where ###.###.###.### displays the IP address of the connected vCenter Server.
