Issue/Introduction

It was asked if it is possible to allocate the trend log datasets with primary and secondary space values different from the default (14 tracks).

In the VKGPARMS member, within the product’s Parmlib dataset, the following parameters are defined:

  • TRENDPFX  – prefix for Trend Log datasets

  • LOGDC        – SMS data class for the Trend Log datasets

The SMS Data Class DCSAMS,  specified in the LOGDC parameter, has the following values.

Override Space . . . . . : YES

Space Avgrec . . . . . . : K

      Avg Value  . . . . : 300

      Primary  . . . . . : 100

      Secondary  . . . . : 100

The Trend Log datasets are allocated with the DCSAMS data class, but the primary and secondary space values remain fixed at 14 tracks and this prevents the activation of ZEDC compression, since the minimum primary space required for ZEDC compression is 100 tracks.

Resolution

This behavior is generated by the Management Class  parameter

“Partial Release”

 set to

CI (Cond Immed)

By changing this parameter to NO, the primary and secondary space remain unchanged, even after being overwritten by Vantage.
