Issue/Introduction

  • The NSX Manager cluster is configured with three nodes (Nodes A/B/C).
  • To change the NSX Manager IP address, three new Manager nodes (Nodes D/E/F) were temporarily added to the cluster.
  • The existing three nodes (Nodes A/B/C) were powered off before being deleted.
  • NSX UI is not accessible and shows the following error.
    Error:
Some appliances components are not functioning properly.
    Components health: Unknown
    Error code: 101

Environment

VMware NSX
VMware NSX-T Data Center

Cause

- Powering off an existing NSX Manager node while it is still recognized as a cluster member may cause a loss of quorum within the NSX Manager cluster.
- Without quorum, the UI service becomes unavailable, leading to login failures and the display of Error code: 101.

Resolution

Follow the official procedure for Change the IP Address of an NSX Manager (Scenario B).

After adding the new Manager nodes with the updated IP addresses to the cluster, do not power off the old Manager nodes before properly removing them from the cluster.

Additional Information

Verify that the cluster status is stable in the UI under [System] > [Appliances], and remove the old manager node through the supported removal process without powering it off.

Note that the deletion procedure differs between manually deployed Manager nodes and Manager nodes deployed from the UI.

  1. If the NSX Manager you want to remove was deployed manually, perform the following steps.
    1. Run the following CLI command to detach the NSX Manager from the cluster.
      detach node <node-id>
    2. Delete the NSX Manager VM.
  2. If the NSX Manager you want to delete was deployed automatically through the NSX Manager UI, perform the following steps.
    1. From your browser, log in with administrator privileges to an NSX Manager at https://<nsx-manager-ip-address>.
This NSX Manager must not be the one that you want to delete.

    2. From the Systems tab, click NSX Management Nodes.
The status of the NSX Manager cluster is displayed.

    3. For the NSX Manager that you want to delete, click the gear icon and select Delete.
