Issue/Introduction

  • License Inventory monitoring alarm is triggered - License inventory is not compliant. License are overused.

  • Upon reviewing the host list assigned to the vSphere license, you will likely discover entries for hosts that are no longer present in the vCenter inventory.
    1. Log in to the vSphere Client with administrative credentials.
    2. Navigate to Menu > Administration.
    3. Under Licensing, click Licenses.
    4. Click the Products tab.
    5. Select the specific license key (e.g., vSphere 8.x Product / License) you suspect is being over-consumed.
    6. Click the Hosts (or Assets) tab.

Environment

vCenter server 8.x

Cause

Hosts that have been decommissioned or removed from the inventory continue to consume a license allocation.

Resolution

Remove entries from Jxplorer. Follow the resolution steps outlined in KB - vCenter Shows Incorrect ESXi License Usage When in Linked Mode.
