vSAN witness appliance is deployed with an expired evaluation license on vSAN 9.0.0

Issue/Introduction

• When deploying VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0.0, the vSAN Witness Appliance is deployed using an expired evaluation license.

• The issue occurs in green field vSAN 9.0.0 environments where the witness nodes are deployed using the vSAN Witness OVF.

Environment

VMware vSAN 9.0.0

Cause

This is a known issue with vSAN Witness OVF 9.0.0 where the build date is the effective start date of the evaluation license.

Resolution

The issue is resolved in vSAN 9.0.1:

1. Upgrade to vSAN 9.0.1

2. Deploy the vSAN witness appliance 9.0.1

 

Workaround: 

1. Deploy vSAN witness appliance 8.0.3 

2. Upgrade witness appliance to 9.0.0
