upgrade the vmtools of virtual machine by lifecycle manager , the task failed as quiescing the virtual machine time out.

Issue/Introduction

Customer try to upgrade the vmtools of virtual machine by lifecycle manager ,  the task failed as snapshot issue . 

The vmware-vum-server-x.log logged error

Checked the virtual machine's vmware log in Esxi host  has errors of snapshot

Environment

vSphere 8.0

Cause

Customer has choice take snapshot as upgrade the vmtools of virtual machine , but some wrong with guest os or heavy IO load issued by virtual machine caused quieced snapshot timeout .

Resolution

Need engage the Guest OS support to check cause of quiesced snapshot failed .  

As work around , do not check the Take snapshot of VMs in upgrade wizard .
