Issue/Introduction

  • Users may encounter the "VC-Virtual Machine-HAReset-State" alert on vCLS (vSphere Cluster Service) virtual machines (VMs).
  • In such cases, the option to acknowledge or reset the alert to green may be unavailable (greyed out).
  • Despite this alert, there is typically no operational impact on the vCLS functioning or the cluster itself.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 7.X
  • VMware vCenter Server 8.X

Resolution

To resolve the "VC-Virtual Machine-HAReset-State" alert, follow the steps outlined below to recreate the vCLS VMs:

  1. Enable Retreat Mode:
    • In vCenter, navigate to the affected cluster.
    • Go to Configure > General (vSphere Cluster Service).
    • Click Edit next to the vCLS Mode setting.
    • Select Retreat Mode.
    • This action will delete all vCLS VMs in the cluster.
  2. Recreate vCLS VMs:
    • Once the vCLS VMs are removed, go back to Configure > General (vSphere Cluster Service).
    • Click Edit next to the vCLS Mode setting.
    • Select System Managed to allow the system to automatically recreate the vCLS VMs.

Note: While this procedure resolves the issue with alert, it is always recommended to review cluster health and ensure there are no underlying issues impacting vCLS VMs. If the problem persists after performing the steps, consider consulting Broadcom support for further assistance.
