"An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Exceeded the maximum number of permitted snapshots" experienced while attempting to take a snapshot of NSX appliances

Issue/Introduction

• While attempting to take a snapshot of NSX components, either Edges, Local Managers, or Global Managers, vCenter Server reports the following error:
  An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Exceeded the maximum number of permitted snapshots. 
  

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

NSX appliances do not support the use of snapshots. The taking of snapshots is disabled for these appliances.

Resolution

Take supported backups by configuring an SFTP server on the NSX Manager.
