Issue/Introduction

  • When deploying a VM from a template in VMware Cloud Director (VCD), the IP address is correctly assigned in VCD but does not reflect at the Windows OS level.
  • Despite having guest customization enabled during deployment, the IP mismatch between VCD and the VM's OS persists.
  • This issue occurs specifically during VM deployment via a template with guest customization enabled. The assigned IP appears correctly in VCD, but it does not update in the OS of the VM.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6

Cause

The problem stems from changes made in ImgCust that now prevent the assignment of a new IP address via guest customization during the deployment process. This causes the VCD-assigned IP and the OS-level IP to mismatch

Resolution

VCD Engineering is aware of the issue and actively evaluating for a fix in a future release of VCD.

Workaround:

  • Deploy the VM with guest customization enabled.

  • Once the VM is powered on, use the "Force Re-Customization" option to apply the correct IP address at the OS level.

  • To use the Power On, Force Re-Customization action on the VM in the VCD UI as a workaround, the VM needs to be in a Powered Off state to apply this action in VCD.
