Unable to create a new network extension in HCX Console

Issue/Introduction

  • HCX Compute Profile is missing from the UI & and a new one can't be created
  • Unable to create new network extensions
  • Network Extension services remain operational with no production impact

Steps to validate:

  • Access HCX admin page at https://<HCX-Manager-IP-or-FQDN>:9443
  • Review the vCenter and SSO connection configuration
  • Access HCX Console at https://<HCX-Manager-IP-or-FQDN>
  • Navigate to Interconnect > Network Profiles
  • Verify which vCenter the network profiles reference
  • Attempt to collect HCX logs and observe the error message

Environment

  • VMware HCX
  • VMware vCenter Server

Cause

The HCX admin page vCenter connection is configured for a different vCenter than the one referenced by the configured network profiles. This mismatch prevents HCX from properly retrieving interconnect appliance configurations, resulting in compute profiles disappearing from the HCX Console.

Resolution

  1. Access the HCX admin page at https://<HCX-Manager-IP-or-FQDN>:9443
  2. Review the current vCenter and SSO connection settings
  3. Access the HCX Console at https://<HCX-Manager-IP-or-FQDN>
  4. Navigate to Interconnect > Network Profiles
  5. Note which vCenter the configured network profiles reference (e.g., vCenter2)
  6. Return to the HCX admin page and update the vCenter connection to point to the vCenter referenced by the network profiles.
  7. Restart HCX services
  8. Refresh the HCX Console
  9. Verify that compute profiles are now present and network extension functionality is restored.
