After upgrading ESXi Transport Nodes, the Cluster NSX Configurations report a validation Error

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading an ESXi host within an NSX cluster to 8.0.3, the configuration for NSX will fail with the error message: The requested object : TransportZoneProfile/<TransportZoneProfile-UUID> could not be found.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.2.2.1

VMware ESXi 8.0.3

Cause

The ESXi hosts that are using the Transport Node Profile are looking for a UUID that no longer exists within the environment. 

Resolution

Remove the ESXi Transport Node from the cluster to push an uninstall of NSX and then re-add the ESXi host back into the cluster to ensure the ESXi host receives the most recent data from NSX. 

  1. Log into the vCenter and locate the host in question.
  2. Place the host in to maintenance mode.
  3. Once fully in maintenance mode, remove the host from the cluster by clicking and dragging the host out (the host should be placed completely out of the NSX cluster and should not be moved to another NSX cluster).
  4. Log into the NSX UI using the admin credentials. 
  5. Click System > expand Fabric > click Hosts.
  6. Select the Other Nodes tab, the newly removed ESXi host should be shown. Ensure the NSX Configuration column reports Not Configured.
  7. In the Clusters tab, identify the cluster housing the ESXi host that was producing the validation error.
  8. Allow NSX to be fully installed (please note that process can take a while, upwards of 15 minutes in some cases).
  9. Ensure that the ESXi host is reporting as Success in the NSX Configuration column and shows that its Status is Up (please note that the status may take a while to show up as Up as the ESXi host is fully prepared for NSX and connections are validated internally).
  10. Repeat the process above for ant other ESXi hosts that are reporting the same error message.

If the above process doesn't resolve the issue, please refer to NSX Host or Edge Transport Nodes have a status of "Unknown" and Tunnels are "Not Available" or "Validation Errors".
