Issue/Introduction

When deploying a cloud proxy, you receive the following error:

Failed to decode OTK: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x9e in position 0: invalid start byte. CPRC will not be properly configured.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.14 and later.

 

Cause

The OVF template wants the DOMAIN name, which is actually the VM's FQDN. The wording is confusing.

You must enter either the DNS shortname or FQDN for the new VM you're deploying.

 

Resolution

 

Delete the failed deployment by powering off the failed cloud proxy VM and in vCenter, Delete from disk. Redeploy and configure the DNS name to be either the VM's shortname or the FQDN of the VM.
