Issue/Introduction

Doing compute and storage vmotion of a VM from one vSAN cluster to other vSAN cluster, gives below warning in the migrate wizard in vCenter UI

  • Datastore does not match current VM policy.
  • Policy specified requires 6 fault domains contributing all-flash storage, but only 5 found.

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.x
VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

This is due to an insufficient number of Fault domain or Standalone hosts in the target/destination vSAN cluster where we are trying to migrate the VM.

Storage Policy Minimum number of Standalone host /Fault Domain
FTT-1 RAID-1 3
FTT-2 RAID-1 5
FTT-3 RAID-1 7
FTT-1 RAID-5 4
FTT-2 RAID-6 6

Resolution

Change the VM policy in the migration wizard which can satisfy the VM creation in target/destination vSAN cluster
