VMware Data Services Manager (DSM) plugin fails to install. Hangs at 80% complete and times out.

Issue/Introduction

After deploying the virtual appliance the plugin fails to install with a timeout error message.

Environment

vSphere 

VMware DSM 2.2.1

Cause

The vCenter VPXD logs will show failures to 'getaddrinfo':

warning vpxd[05264] [Originator@6876 sub=vpxUtil] getaddrinfo failed; host: <fqdn hostname of vCenter or ESXi>, e: N7Vmacore15SystemExceptionE(Name or service not known)

This is a name resolution issue. Ensure the newly provisioned appliance is able to resolve the vCenter and ESXi hosts.

Resolution

During deployment the ova configuration file does not support using commas to add multiple dns servers. Redeploy using spaces instead of a comma to separate name servers.

You could also add the names and fqdns of target vCenter and ESXi hosts to the hosts file of the virtual machine.
