When attempting to access the VM console of a Windows Server getting error "Sign-in process initialization failure"

When attempting to connect to the console of a Windows Server 2022 virtual machine, an error message appears stating:
“Sign-in process initialization failure. Interactive sign-in process initialization has failed.”

Additionally, attempts to connect via Remote Desktop (MSTSC) result in the following error:
“dcprocmon.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142).
Click OK to close the application.”

Cause

These errors typically stem from corruption or failure within the Windows operating system components responsible for interactive login and remote desktop sessions.  

  • Corruption or missing Windows system files necessary for the login process.
  • Issues with LogonUI.exe or related authentication components. 

Resolution

These issues are Windows OS-level problems, engage Microsoft OS support is advised for in-depth troubleshooting and resolution.
