Impact of DNS change on CARA Execution Server

Issue/Introduction

DNS records are going to be changed for Execution Server (the machine has two physical interfaces).

Current state:

server1.company.com    -> xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
server2.company.com         -> yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy

Target state:

server2.company.com    -> xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
server1.company.com         -> yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy

How the change will impact existing CARA installation?

Resolution

The configuration files usually use IP addresses instead of host names, therefore likely the transition will make no effect on the installation.

Ideally, the transition should be tested in the testing environment before making any changes to production.

Before DNS changes it is safer to stop the affected machine running the Execution server and start that machine after the changes take effect. This step might allow to avoid some unknown and unforeseen problems.
