Issue/Introduction

A capacity critical alert is observed in NSX Manager when more than five vSphere clusters are prepared for NSX. This occurs even though CPU and RAM utilization remain well within acceptable limits.

Environment

NSX 4.2.x

Cause

The NSX Manager Medium form factor supports up to five NSX-prepared clusters. When a sixth cluster is prepared, the configuration exceeds the validated and supported scale maximums. This results in the critical capacity alert being triggered, regardless of actual CPU and memory usage.

Resolution

Resize NSX Manager appliances from the Medium form factor to the Large form factor.

  • Medium: 6 vCPUs, 24 GB RAM, 300 GB disk

  • Large: 12 vCPUs, 48 GB RAM, 500 GB disk

Steps to resize can be found in the official documentation:
Resize an NSX Manager Node

The NSX Managers will automatically detect the additional CPU and RAM resources and align the supported object and cluster limits to the Large form factor.

Additional Information

There is no workaround or configuration setting to increase the Medium form factor cluster limit from 5 to 6.
