Issue/Introduction

Can you explain the difference between the EOJ and EOM for me?  Is that End Of Job and End Of Message?

Resolution

EOM is actually End of Memory and is described in the "End of Memory" area of the Using AOF Rules section in the OPS/MVS manual.

EOJ is End of Job and is described in the "End of Job Rules"  area of the Using AOF Rules section of the OPS/MVS manual.

In general, EOM rules are more reliable as they are always generated, regardless of the way a task finishes.  EOJ messages, on the other hand, may not trigger on some abends, and they have conditions that must be in place as described in the EOJ section referenced above.  The advantage of an EOJ rule is that they will give you the return code or abend code of the finished task.
